Real Hip-Hop Listeners Are The Minority Now Rant?

- Last night I was talking to some people about the current rap scene and they were talking about how its SO amazing.

- They made alot of stupid statements but it was a couple that stood out.

- They said they ONLY listen to southern rap and nothing else. Now how stupid can you be to listen to just one region only because you are from there. Thats one thing I never understood ok rep your hood but don't let that stand in the way of hearing a great album. If I was that ignorant and said I only listen to MS rappers then I would be listening to David Banner all day and thats it because we have nobody else out.

- You have to broaden your horizons and give everybody a chance. Its like they think somebody is a good artist off the wrong thing. For example beats, club anthems, jewelry they wear, and all of this stuff that has nothing to do with their talent on the mic.

- I'm just starting to believe that we are the minority now and its crazy because when you try and educate you get looked at as the fool because you have a real ear for talent and not this make believe stuff.

- Its like other than Yahoo Answers when was the last time you had a conversation with somebody and they really knew what they were talking about. You bring up EPMD, Public Enemy, Rakim, KRS-One and they look confused. But they do know about Gucci Mane, Rocko, %26amp; Soulja Boy and think they are the ****.

- In the 90's we were the majority but now its the other way around. I guess I'm just living in the past then.Real Hip-Hop Listeners Are The Minority Now Rant?
The problem is, a lot of rap fans from the 80s and 90s are married or have families and don't listen to rap anymore. I'm 23 and all my brothers and sisters are older than me. They were in high school and college in the 90s but now they have families and they don't listen to rap anymore. The fans of rap now are 15-25 and they don't know the culture, they grew up listening to lyrics with no content and don't know anything about true talent. There are only a few youngsters like me who have taken the time to listen to older music and realize how good it used to be. This situation won't change until (a) real talent starts getting mainstream exposure (this has started to happen with Lupe) or (b) we get them to listen to older music and underground artists.Real Hip-Hop Listeners Are The Minority Now Rant?
I agree im 14 and whenever I talk about real hiphop i get looked at like im crazy. I could mention any great rapper and my peers will think its wack. But somebody mentions 50 or Wayne and everyone goes crazy. And the worst thing is im from the westcoast but everyone over here is riding the south
I agree man.

I get laughed at cuz to me mic skills count more than the money you got....

I listen to music I like and T.I., Scarface, Ludacris, OutKast and Chamillionaire are my fave from the South. I'm starting to listen to Bun B %26amp; Blackalicious too...
I feel your pain! The golden age of hip-hop seems to have come and gone! I mostly stick to the classics now because I'm not a fan of much of the stuff that comes out now.
There Narrow Minded Hip Hop Retards

okay

soulja boy is ';real hip hop';

just not good
those are retards that like fake rap. they dont know what real rap is!!!
People are stupid....thats all.

Who's Rocko?
Good rant.

And I support Angel's new found interest in Blackalicious. Although they are from the West, not the South.
I have problems relating to people musically all the time. It makes me sick, people are so one track minded.

As far as having a conversation with someone who really knew their stuff, I do it every day. One of my friends is a hip hop genius. It's rare to be able to find a person to relate to all of your hip hop interests, or at least be knowledgeable enough to discuss different artists, whether or not they share them..they still have enough background information on different artists to form a decent conversation.
I dont know about you, but I gave up on hip hop after Master P and the No Limit idiots and the load of posers at Bad Boy completely commercialized and ruined it. The only modern stuff I listen to is very underground hardcore lyricists.

The days of the old guard of hip hop are gone, but the music lives on. Most of the hip hop I STILL listen to is older then most the people buying ';Gucci Man'; albums. People these days have no clue what skills are. They are all about catchy hooks, ';bling';, and stupid trademark dances.
Your singling out the South...I can't remember the last time I heard of a Gucci Mane or Rocko fan. Plus why do you people keep complaining that people like differrent styles of Hip-Hop. Get over it. So what if people like music that sounds catchy. It's their own choice, not yours. Plus, I'm not saying KRS-One and Rakim and all these people aren't good rappers, but it's kind of obvious that more people like the mainstream rappers like T.I., Lil' Wayne %26amp; yes, even Soulja Boy, 'cause these guys are sellin' records like crazy. Why do you gotta separate Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is supposed to be this thing that a group of people do for fun, and it's supposed to be a celebration. It was meant to make everybody come together, not grow apart. Stop the hating people. It's really getting old and unneccessary.

(Edit) I don't really care what he sold okay. I just heard he went Platinum..anyways, Move on from that old ish..It WAS good, now there's NEW Hip-Hop...Know what..All these industry cats obviously know more about rap than all y'all anyways, and all these ';fake rappers'; are getin love so fcuk it...stop btichin bout the past HATAS.
Ive heard that alot, specially here in TX, I hear lots of people saying they have to support their rappers and they only listen to Paul Wall, Chingo Bling....I think its cool to support our own people but dont close others out because of a region, just like you said.

Today the so called ';Rappers'; they are actually just doing dance music, they only want songs that will get played at the club and that people will dance at and dont care how crappy they make the rest of the people look. Most of those songs if you listen to them, the dont make no sense!!

Retarded, what happened to the good old days.....
When ever someone brings up EPMD,PE, Rakim etc. I begin to feel old...but on your point, it's correct
