More non-white people playing in the NHL? Read Rant before answering?

Do not get me wrong. I am not a racist or anything close. I just want to get your take if you believe that having more non-whites in the NHL would boost TV ratings and more interest by non-whites outside the NHL. Can we get more non-whites into the NHL without judging by race color etc?More non-white people playing in the NHL? Read Rant before answering?
Yeah man. I hate how hockey has to get bashed as ';such a white people sport'; but its actually just fun. Sports don't cater to races, it just caters to fun. Its just like how people say basketball is a black sport. The only reason it is, is cause growing up in urban communities, basketball was the easiest sport to play meaning all you needed was a ball.





Same thing with soccer. It's easy to play soccer. All you need is a ball and a park.





But then again, with street hockey (I play street and inline) you don't need skates. You just run around. All you need is a stick and a smaller ball.





I just wish that when I play hockey it wouldn't make me seem so ';white'; just because its the sport that I love to play cause I have the most fun with it. And for blacks it seems now like its a crime if a black man isn't that good at basketball. Just like it means a black person must be ';white washed'; if they don't like rap. I ******* hate the way people have to stereotype.More non-white people playing in the NHL? Read Rant before answering?
being african american myself there isnt a big appeal or turn on for us to see other african americans play hockey. im a texan too so bascically here its football basketball baseball and nothing else for black people here. i have always thought hockey was mostly a canadian and european sport. there are a great many blacks in those countries but even in those countries blacks tend to play soccer or basketball. so even outside america there isnt that great of an appeal for blacks to play hockey. i dont think its a question of racism or exclusion. but if there is no market for people of that ethnic group to participate then why should the nhl waste time persuing avenues to introduce the sport to non whites. i just think you have to cater to your core fans. thats not being racist.
I don't think race would have any effect. When I watch, I could care less what race someone is, where they are from, etc. All I care about is how they play the game.
Yes they could use more but their is a few Black or Asian players in the league. It could boost TV ratings but not by a lot.





We need a Yao Ming for Hockey. Tall and from Asia and Africa that would boost a lot of ratings.
I am a Punjabi Canadian so i guess I would have to watch all the games with anyone representing Punjab.
It would help the ratings. I thing is how many good non-white players is in the ncaa or minors
Why are you even asking the question if race is not an issue? I think it would be dificult for non caucasian players to be accepted in hockey %26amp; i bet there are a lot of racial slurs out there on the ice.
The NHL is already the most popular game around. Why the big concern? Hockey is played mostly in areas with lower populations of 'non-whites' (Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Minnesota)





Besides, Jerome Iginla, Jordin Tootoo, Johnathon Cheechoo, just throwing some names out there. And that's not mentioning Willie O'Ree, Grant Fuhr, and others. There're plenty of players who are 'non-white'
I dont care what color or nationality they are. The NHL has more representation from other countries than any other major sport in the USA!
