The A%26amp;E television network said it stopped production while it investigates the comments by Chapman, who runs Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu and whose appeal as a folk hero has been heightened by the three-year-old show.
The tape was obtained by the National Enquirer and published on its Web site on Wednesday. On the tape, an enraged Chapman uses profanities and a racial slur while talking about his son's girlfriend, who is African American. The Enquirer did not say how it obtained the tape and it was not clear who Chapman was talking to.
The recording can be heard on CNN's websiteWill you continue to support Duane ';Dog'; Chapman show even after his racist rant?
I didn't support him in the first place. He's nothing but an ex-con loser IMO.
Besides, what do you expect from trailer trash. That's how they usually behave. Will you continue to support Duane ';Dog'; Chapman show even after his racist rant?
Dog's African-American pastor was just on Fox and he was an eloquent spokesman on Dog's behalf. He recounted hearing Dog trying to talk his charges out of crime on a regular basis. ThatGirl above is right, he is not expressing hatred of African-Americans, it appears he is reacting to a threat from the girl and/or his son to record him in an unguarded moment, and apparently, he had good reason to be concerned. I believe in forgiveness and redemption for all but child molesters and murderers.
It appears as if he made some pretty base statements.
I imagine we are all guilty of saying things that were disgusting and distasteful at stressful times in our lives.
I am not willing to sit here and claim that I am pure as the driven snow like many of the answerers to this question. The truth is simple. If we had cameras and tape recorders tracking and recording everyone of our conversations, we would all be accused of racism, bigotry, vile language, and hate. These are things that we all struggle with, and try hard to get rid of, but there are time that they raise their evil heads, and we come off sounding intollerant or rude.
If we as a society have decided that private conversations should be recorded and made public and that we should judge one another on the content of everything we say, even when stressed or angry, we are in big trouble.
Some of you answerers are going on about a utopian society and claiming that you have never been guilty of racist remarks or hurtful words. You are all liars and should be ashamed of your judgemental behavior.
I never liked the guy because I don't think a guy who did so much harm while he was growing up deserves to get a TV show. There are many bounty hunters out there who've grown up with fairly good morals who'd love to have that TV show. As far as his racist rant, I don't condone it because I believe that every individual is different.
However, let's be real.
To those who say that Duane is a racist, whether you're white or black, are you willing to admit that you are also a ';racist'; because of what you've negatively said about whites or blacks? Come on, be truthful here.
As the Bible says, ';He who is without sin, may cast the first stone.'; Label him a racist, only if you've never, ever said anything negative about black or white people. Otherwise, label yourself a ';racist,'; too.
I'm neither here nor there on his show, never watched it. However, a person can certainly say anything they want in their own home. As someone already stated, he didn't threaten to kill or lynch anyone. He just basically said he has a loose tounge and wants to be careful about who might be offended.
Of course, I never thought Imus should have done more than one apology, directed to the Rutgers basketball team. That going on a mea culpa tour with Rev. Sharpton made things ten times worse.
I dont care what he says in the privacy of his home. Why do blacks always want to fight when someone expresses a loathe for them? We live in a mean world and everyone doesnt love everyone. He said it in the privacy of his home, not on air. I dont think his show should be cancelled and those who have a problem with him should just stop watching him. Its not like blacks watch his show anyway. Plain and simple. I think it was wrong for his son to leak the tape. That was very cruel and I guess he wont be in Daddy's business after all. i dont care how angry I am with my parents, I wont stoop so low to do something like that.
first off i don't neccessarily believe he's a huge racist...he...as he stated...has worked really hard to be where he is and there is nothing more frustrating than other people who are out to ruin you...and aside from that i can only imagine how frustrated and pissed he is now...that's what that whole conversation was about. just because you use the n word doesn't mean you are racist...i use it sometimes myself..the word means degenerate and ignorant...i apply it to white people as well as black...it's not my fault that's what ol whitey used to describe blacks back in the day...i use the word as it applies..just like any other word...people don't get in trouble for saying the words c...nt and f...ggot...or b...itch which is honestly just as demeaning and offensive.
and let us not forget many black people or at least famous ones glorify the word in the first place and use other horrible words..doesn't make anything right but that's the way it is.
now as far as his career...
the guys doing a great thing..he's searching for people that have escaped the law or that the law has just flat out forgotten about because they have day to day crime to worry about.
i think this bulling the black community has done to the white and other types of people about the stupid n word has really just gone way too far and is out of line
this was after all a private conversation to which was of nobodies business...it's not like the guy is going out in a white hat and lighting crosses on fire and trying to drag black people from a truck...that would be completely unacceptable.
people...especially black people have to understand that people are entitled to their opinions...(esp in private) and people are going to not like others for whatever reason, color, sex, sexual orientation, handicaps, type of fashion...whatever.
i've accepted that not everybody is going to like me and that's fine...you can't change that...
if his remarks were deliberate and based toward a person (and by the way they weren't based at his sons g-friend...he was making statements that he uses those words in private)...if his remarks were deliberatly on air or in a book
than be mad at him..but until then he has a right to want what he wants...
i mean if he's a parent and doesnt want his son dating a black chick because he genuinely doesnt like that..what's wrong with that?
some parents don't like the fact that their kid is gay...some parents don't like certain people regardless of color...some people wouldn't want their kid dating an asian or a puerto rican and some also don't want their kids marrying jews and quite honestly you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of white families that weren't bothered a little by their white child dating a black one...or EVEN VICE VERSA...blacks not happy their kids dating a white person...yeh that happens too.
so lets stop sugarcoating how people feel and get used to the idea that people always prefer their own kind...animals are the same way
and we are after all...animals no matter how much we think we're above all that...we still are part of the animal kingdom.
Of course not ! I heard that he wanted to apologize to Rev Al Sharpton , why he thinks Mr. Sharpton accepts apologies for every black person in America is beyond me. He would do better by making a public on air apology. But it is not so much what he said in a private phone call, in my opinion, it's how he feels towards blacks in general, and no television station wants a racist on air causing their network to lose ratings, and giving them a bad image. trust me Duane is not worth that much to them, and he can easily be replaced. Everything happens for a reason, and his time in the spot light is up ! he needs to go somewhere and hide under a rock !
Well, I'm not going to support or withdraw my support. I have never bought his products, and I stopped watching his show a while ago, cause my tastes changed... However...
I have not heard his say anything actually negative about black people. He is very insensitive to the damage that using the word ni* can have on people. Also, he seems to be under the delusion that as a white man he can use this term as much as black people do.
On the other hand. I have heard black people use this term to insult and degrade specific individuals. But when black people do it, no one offers anyone mega bucks to tape it. Matter fact, black people don't even get accused of racism.
I don't think this is a case of black folks only taking offense. I think there is something wrong with peoples abilities to understand what they hear.
In no way, did this man in private or public vilify black character. What he did do was use ugly words, and defend his use of ugly words. Obviously America is not only prejudiced against black people, but they also direct their lack of deep critical thinking towards white people who do not conform to their standards. Dog defended the use of a word, not slavery. I think he has as much right as any one else to use whatever word he likes in private.
Dog is insensitive, uses ugly words, but has not actually expressed hatred. He is guilty of being dumb enough to think that a public figure can go around using language that has not been stamped acceptable by the PC police.
He was having a private conversation with his own child. In the face of threats that his insensitive language use was going to be made public, he called his son, and stuck his foot in his mouth on tape. The girl allegedly made statements that she was going to record their use of the n word. Then wow, suddenly this tape shows up with the national enquirer. Hmmmm.
Anyone saying that its black people who are specifically up in arms is a racist. Learn to think of people as individuals. Black people do not share the same brain or the same opinion.
Transcripts below. (only partial transcripts, I could not find the transcripts of the longer portion of tape where he goes on about how the girl was going to fight? and tape what Beth says...)
yeah, i will because I like Dog - he's so funny with his mace! hee!
I think he was doing just what he said - ranting on his son - you know when people get mad, they will resort to name calling to get at the other person. - immature, yes, but lots of people do it. I don't think he really meant that - his pastory is black! If he was really a racist I don't think he'd be looking at a black man as a man of God!
I do, however , think it was very sh1tty of his son to release that tape. His career is probably over and families shouldn't do things that are that detrimental. Dog said some bad words, the kid will get over it - but that kid ruined his Dad's career / life.
Funny thing is , that kid is gonna need that Daddy of his one day. There's about a 99% chance him and the girl will break up, but Dad will still be around
I just hope that ';Dog'; doesn't go whining to Sharpton with his tail between his legs, begging for forgiveness. Stand up like a man.. Don't bow to the PC police that seemingly are taking over our First Amendment rights. N***** is not a word that I use personally, but I defend Mr. Chapman's right to do so, if he pleases, just as I defend Chris Rock, J-Z, and others' right to call me a cracker. So what?!!
No Im not going to support this dope crack head murderer! I don't support anybody who has killed or participated and planned a murder!
YES...we all make mistakes. His son sold him out..his son, who is just out of jail, decided he needed money....and turned over the private tape. I do not agree with using the N word, but understand some who use it are not racists..he made a mistake....his embarrassement is payment enough...
LET HIM ALONE%26gt;%26gt;put the show back on!!!
It is wrong to ever speak racist but most people in anger have done it. He is human. Hope he and son repair their relationship. It is much moer important than his show.
I first heard the short version and just now got to hear the long version of this phone conversation between Tucker and Mr. Chapman.
I hear a Father disciplining a son whose girlfriend was making threats and stirring up problems between the family members.
Every family has at one time or another gotten on to their children who were hanging around people who were a bad influence.
It is extremely obvious Mr. Chapman was very correct in his assessment of the whole situation concerning his son Tucker and his girlfriend.
While Mr. Chapman is talking to his son the very son whose is recording this conversation is lying to his Dad on this tape about his girlfriends intentions.
THEY WERE NOT JUST HIS GIRLFRIENDS INTENTIONS ~ OBVIOUSLY!!!
Shame on A%26amp;E, Black leaders for getting involved and promotion a rebellious son.
OMG yesss...what racist rant?....theres was no such thing in that PRIVATE conversation.by the way were all racist..people need to admite it but no there the first people to get offended.. i just think its lame
You term him as ';Racist'; by What diffinition? Did this Rant occur on his Show or on the Street, at a Bar, a laundry mat, a mall, or on The Tonight Show? This was a ';Private'; conversation that a tabloid has Snowballed into a Three Ringed Circus. Keep on Truckin' (or Bustin') DAWG!
I dont' support him or watch his show. I really don't care what he has to say.
He can say what he wants to say. He was making an attempt to be a father to his son, its between those two.
Whether its right or wrong, its none of my business.
This is really getting out of hand. People have a right to think and say what they want, particularly if they believe they are doing so privately.
I'm black, and I'll continue to support his show. He's no more racist than the average white trash guy, which he is- and no more racist than others in his age group- and if people heard the crap I say, I'd be in a lotta trouble too!
Most of what he said was that he didn't want to get caught on tape and lose everything- not that he hated African-Americans or wanted to lynch anyone- He just didn't want an ';N hearing him say N!'; LOL! I don't want people to hear the crap I say about them either! LOL!
He demanded that his son break up with Monique because she threatened to tape his poor choice of words and he'd lose everything- not because she's black.
Yes, people have a righ to say what they want in private, even if they want to be racist. Who really cares anyway? I like his show and why would I stop watching it because he said a bad word. I wouldn't stop watching it if he said b**** or some other bad word, cause that is ALL it is, a bad word. The only reason the network suspended the show is because now in america you have to be politically correct and appease the poor suffering black folks who are HURT that he said this word. Do you think half of America really cares what he said. I doubt it. If we could listen in on everyones private conversations all the time, we would hear some pretty shocking stuff, way more shocking than a little n word. Get over it already!! Stop giving more fodder to Al Sharpton and the like. Let me know when someone does something REALLY bad!
HIS show made it look so funny.None of
them could act.Who ever herd of a bounty hunter
dressed like clown.
I'M glad it was canceled but i didn't watch it anyway.
But we will see it for years in reruns as the series
will go syndication.
phil
No. I just posted a similar question. I will no longer support him. Anyone WHO SAYS THEY DO, must use the N-word and racially slur people of color or they just would be more sensitive to the fact that underneath all the ';holier than though crap'; Dog Chapman and his family are bigot filth.
Anyone like tgibby who answered this question first must have a mentality like Dog and his trashy, racist faimly.
Glad A%26amp;E have suspended production of his show. He's worse than Imus could have ever been!
When will ';these types'; ever learn? Just think, all this time, Dog was a nazi bigot with such hatred for Black people. I definitely will not be watching him anymore. Maybe he should have done time in a Mexican prison.
If you read his book you will find a lot of his tactics, and morality is lacking. He smoked crack in the mid 1990's while he was Bounty Hunting. His murder conviction was in the late 70's. I had always figured he completely changed his life around after the conviction. Apparently he hasn't changed.
It's important to note that the murder victim was a black man.
I could care less if the show airs anymore or not, his continuous foul mouth using the F word, etc.... is much more offensive than saying the N word!
What is the big deal about the N word anyway, black people call white people racist names all the time..........and Dog reaching out to Al Sharpton, WTH??????
I just hope we don't see Dog marching in any of those protest with Sharpton %26amp; Jackson promoting more racism in the world in order to help clear his name!!!
he;s an idiot any way..just a showman for the tv
He looks like a rascist
I didnt need proof~
